What the Business Does:
Praetas is a full service technology company for both residential and commercial customers. We provide an array of computer, audio / video, surveillance, Wi-Fi, home automation and cabling services, and aim to be our customers’ one-stop shop for all their tech installation, training, support and repair needs. Many companies do only residential, or only do businesses, or they only support computers, do audio / video, or run cables. We do it all and are proud to have the necessary synergy and cohesion between our departments to get complex projects completed, under one roof. We have a main office on Military Trail that accepts walk-ins and drops offs for computer repairs and upgrades, we can render remote or on-site computer and home entertainment support, and install low voltage cabling in projects ranging from new construction and major renovation, to completed homes.
How the Business Got Started:
In 2003, Joe was working for a litigation law firm on Palm Beach. He formed Praetas in order to conduct “moonlight” IT services for the firm’s clients (with the firm’s consent, of course), and over the next several years amassed about 100 regular customers. As time marched on and the real estate bubble burst, the law firm found it’s work depleting (after all, people couldn’t afford to sue each other quite as much as they used to), and Joe decided to focus on his business full time. At about the same time, Joe got a serendipitous offer from his father-in-law to use a store front of a warehouse in Palm Beach Gardens that he leased for a year, since he had no use for the store front portion. Joe and his wife, Ashley, started working out of that 200 sq. ft. front office, and over the years slowly took over the entire space. In 2018, Praetas and it’s 10 employees moved into it’s current 4,000 sq. ft. flagship space on Military Trail, and have several service vehicles and over 3000 past and present clients.
Business Niche or Specialty:
Having started in Palm Beach, Praetas found out early on that many of the typical IT support companies wore blinders to new technology and lacked a personal touch, and having catered to the Palm Beach elite, Joe knew what it meant to offer white glove service. Joe found that many people appreciated the attention to detail by qualified, courteous and sociable techs, and that is what we have based our business on ever since. Praetas is here to offer the most cutting edge solutions to problems, make lives easier, and we truly care about our customers’ well being and satisfaction.
What Sets the Business Apart:
There are Geek Squads and MSPs and cable guys and automation companies, but there’s been no one to combine them all – until Praetas. We don’t charge recurring maintenance or management fees, we aren’t limited by brands of products or existing processes, and we are free to come up with customized solutions for our customers’ unique and individual needs. We are a novel concept in technology sales and support, and embrace our trailblazing status in the industry.
Ideal Clients:
The ideal customer for Praetas really encompasses those that use technology. Our store front appeals to people needing local computer repair, data recovery and who appreciate hand-built custom PCs. Our IT support division caters to small-to-mid-size local businesses with 1-2 servers, and up to 25 employees, and our Low Voltage / Special Projects division is looking for new homeowners and General Contractors to align with for whole-home cabling and equipment solutions. Right now, with everyone flooding into South Florida, we are finding a spike in interest in Whole Home Wi-Fi, TV installation services, Whole-Home SONOS systems, Ring and security camera systems, and Alexa-based voice and app-controlled automation.
