High Pressure Sales

I’ve had years of sales training. As a real estate salesperson, I am taught through coaches and brokerages to close people in every conversation.

If you’ve ever been a salesperson, it’s easy to spot the second someone is using a sales technique on you. For example, I got a text yesterday from a personal trainer trying to rope me into a free session so I will feel obligated to sign up for the service. Been there, done that.

I can’t stand high pressure sales, and I know that I’m not alone. I don’t appreciate it when people try to close me. To me, it’s obvious, but unless you’ve had training, it’s probably not crystal clear. You may feel kind of icky, or pressured, but you’re not sure exactly why.

I’ll tell you – you are being closed.

So, my business is run on respect and attention to my clients needs. One of the reasons I get so many referrals and repeat clients is because I have a secret weapon: I don’t apply undue pressure.

  • Yes, I will ask questions to get to the underlying reasons people are making big decisions.
  • Yes, I will remind people of their motivation and keep them moving forward when they have indicated that it is what they want to do.
  • Yes, I will ease their fears as we move through the process, because these transitions are big and scary.
  • Yes, I will negotiate aggressively and fight for my clients to get the best deal so they have the best real estate sales experience.
  • Yes, I will close the deal.

But I’m never going to lie, exaggerate or rush someone’s decision so I can get a sale. I could. I’ve been trained.

It’s a matter of respect. My clients are my top priority. I work to serve them, not to sell them.
